THIS PAGE IS FOR PRYSM (Philadelphia Region Youth String Music) AND PRYSM YOUNG ARTISTS

  • Auditions are open to students ranging in age from 6 through 17 years.
  • Students are selected and placed by the Directors in either PRYSM or PRYSM Young Artists based on musical, maturity and experience.
  • PRYSM students must have finished Suzuki Book 4, PRYSM Young Artists students, Suzuki Book 2, or equivalent.
  • Placement in either orchestra is based on the strength of the entire audition and at the sole discretion of the Directors.

Audition Requirements for PRYSM YOUNG ARTISTS

  • PRYSM Young Artists students should play one major scale and one minor scale of their choice, in two octaves, with quarter note equal to 60 on the metronome. The scale should be played single bows in quarter notes and eighth notes. Students are to bring one solo piece of their choosing.
  • Sight reading may be asked.

  • PRYSM students should play one major scale and one minor scale of their choice, in three octaves, with quarter notes equal to 60 on the metronome. The scale should be played single bows in quarter notes, eighth notes, triplets, and sixteenth notes.
  • Students are to bring one solo piece of their choosing.
  • Sight reading may be asked.
  • All students considered for PRYSM must be proficient with vibrato.
  • All Cellists must select scales which demonstrate the use of thumb position.
Audition Requirements for Students to Advance from PRYSM Young Artists to PRYSM
  • PRYSM YA students should play one major scale and one minor scale of their choice, in three octaves, with quarter notes equal to 60 on the metronome. The scale should be played single bows in quarter notes, eighth notes, triplets, and sixteenth notes.
  • Sight reading may be asked.
  • All students considered for PRYSM must be proficient with vibrato.

  • Students are to prepare the following excerpts:

The applicant and/or parent/guardian agree that all decisions concerning placement and participation in the PRYSM program are at the sole discretion of the artistic staff, and that their decisions are final.

Annual tuition for the 2012-2013 season is TBD. A non-refundable $375.00 deposit is due at the time an accepted student registers for the PYO program. Tuition balance is due by the first rehearsal of the concert season.
