Philadelphia Youth Orchestra Announces New 2010/2011 Board of Trustees and Officers

Philadelphia Area Professionals appointed to serve on Board of one of nation’s oldest youth orchestras

Dr. Trude Haecker, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, and Maestro Louis Scaglione, the President and Music Director of the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra (PYO), today announced newly elected members of the Board of Trustees for the 2010/2011 performance season. Fourteen area professionals in total, serving PYO and its ensembles, will assist Maestro Scaglione in the upcoming year providing guidance to one of the nation’s oldest youth orchestras.

New members of the Board of Trustees are as follows:

  • Lawrence J. Choi, Principle of YouGov Marketing Insights, YouGov, PLC resides in Moorestown, NJ.
  • Michael Devine, Vice President and General Manager, Atlantic Trailer Leasing Corp. resides in Lumberton, NJ.
  • Frank Giordano, President, Atlantic Trailer Leasing Corp. resides in Moorestown, NJ.
  • Carole Haas Gravagno, retired teacher and community activist, resides in Philadelphia, PA.
  • W. Matthew Skilton, Vice President, Commercial Lending and Business Development, First Republic Bank, resides in Philadelphia, PA.

The Officers/Executive Committee, Board of Trustees, are as follows:

  • Trude Haecker, MD: Chairman. Dr. Haecker is the Chief Medical Officer, Ambulatory, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and resides in Bryn Mawr, Pa.
  • Joseph F. DiMauro. VMD: First Vice Chairman. Dr. DiMauro is the owner of the Horsham Veterinary Hospital, PC and resides in Dresher, Pa.
  • Rebecca Clement, Esq.: Second Vice Chairman. Ms. Clement is the Past-President of HiGene Laundry Company and resides in Haverford, Pa.
  • David R. McShane: Treasurer. Mr. McShane is the President of McShane Enterprises and resides in New Hope, Pa.
  • Robert R. Kugler, Esq.: Secretary. Mr. Kugler is a Shareholder at Archer & Greiner, P.C. and resides in Haddonfield, N.J.

About the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra: Founded in 1939, the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra has offered the opportunity for gifted and talented students to be involved in extraordinary music education through its orchestra training and performance programs. Its companion ensembles include the Philadelphia Young Artists Orchestra (PYAO), formed in 1996, and Bravo Brass, added to the program in 2003. PRYSM (Philadelphia Region Youth String Music) was added in 2007 and the Musicopia String Orchestra, a partnership which began in 2008. This season, PYO launched its newest initiative, Tune Up Philly.

Ranging in age from 6 through 21 years, the musicians of the six programs are selected by competitive application and come from the Tri-State region. The Philadelphia Youth Orchestra has represented the United States on five continents and has visited more than 20 countries including China, Russia, Australia, Great Britain, Jordan, Israel, Brazil, Venezuela, and most of the countries of Eastern and Central Europe.
