Philadelphia Youth Orchestra Announces 2010/2011 Season Performance Schedule

Seventy-first season offering 20 performances commences in December

Philadelphia, PA – October 25, 2010 (Download PDF) Maestro Louis Scaglione, the President and Music Director of the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra (PYO), today announced the 2010/2011 season performance schedule of one of the nation’s oldest youth orchestras. PYO and its ensembles, the Philadelphia Young Artists Orchestra, conducted by Geoff McDonald, Bravo Brass, conducted by Paul Bryan, PRYSM (Philadelphia Region Young String Music), conducted by William dePasquale, PRYSM Young Artists, conducted by Sarah Sutton, Musicopia String Orchestra, conducted by Daniela Pierson and Tune Up Philly, directed by Stanford Thompson will commence the new season on Saturday, December 4, 2010 and offer 20 performances through June 2011.

"The Philadelphia Youth Orchestra and its ensembles boast a highly talented group of musicians who are thrilled to offer an ambitious season of classical music as we commence our 71st season," said Maestro Louis Scaglione. "I am especially pleased to offer special performances that will benefit some of the region’s most charitable institutions, as well as perform at the Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts and hold our annual gala in March. The 2010/2011 season has an abundance of classical performances to offer music lovers from the Tri-State region and beyond."

About the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra: Founded in 1939, the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra is one of the nation’s oldest classical music training and orchestra performance programs for gifted and talented students from the Tri-State region. Lead by Maestro Louis Scaglione, PYO’s companion ensembles include the Philadelphia Young Artists Orchestra (PYAO), formed in 1996; Bravo Brass, added to the program in 2003; Philadelphia Region Youth String Music (PRYSM) created in 2007; and the Musicopia String Orchestra partnership, which began in 2008. Young musicians from ages six through 21 are selected by competition audition and have represented the United States on five continents. The Philadelphia Youth Orchestra (PYO) offers classical musical performances to the Greater Philadelphia region each year and supports musical education to children from Philadelphia’s more challenging neighborhoods through its newest after-school program launched in 2010, Tune Up Philly.
