The Choral Society of Montgomery County Announces First Concert of Season with Philadelphia Youth Orchestra, December 4, 2010

The Choral Society of Montgomery County performs C.P.E. Bach’s Magnificat and songs and carols of the season at Montgomery County Community College Saturday, December 4 at 8 p.m.

Maestro Louis Scaglione, Artistic Director of The Choral Society of Montgomery County (CSMC), in residence at Montgomery County Community College, and President and Music Director of the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra (PYO) today announced a joint concert on December 4 at the Science Center Theater at Montgomery County Community College. As the first CSMC and PYO concert of the season, more than 45 singers and 50 gifted classical music students will perform Magnificat by C.P.E. Bach and Songs & Carols of the Season with Jackie Dunleavy Boyle, Soprano, Sandra Carney, Mezzo Soprano, Steven Brennfleck, Tenor, Brian Ming Chu, Bass, and Sheri Segal Melcher, pianist, conducted by Maestro Scaglione.

"Classical songs of the holiday season are a joyous way to kick-off December," said Cynthia O'Neill, President, The Choral Society of Montgomery County. "The accompaniment of the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra to highly-talented singers from the Choral Society offers classical music and holiday carol lovers the opportunity to experience a wonderful performance on December 4."

"It is with great excitement that the Choral Society commences its 29th season and the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra commences its 71st season on December 4 at Montgomery County Community College. We invite all ages from the region to join us to celebrate the holiday season with festive carols and classic works," said Maestro Louis Scaglione, the President and Music Director of PYO and the Artistic Director of The Choral Society of Montgomery County. "The Philadelphia Youth Orchestra enjoys participating in the Lively Arts Series at Montgomery County Community College as we seek to share classical music with the Greater Philadelphia region."

The Philadelphia Youth Orchestra concert with The Choral Society of Montgomery County will be held Saturday, December 4, 2010, 8:00 p.m. at the Science Center Theater, Montgomery County Community College (340 Dekalb Pike, Blue Bell, Pa.). With the help of its principal sponsor, Montgomery County Community College, the ensemble continues to meet its goal of enriching its community through concert performance and choral music education. About the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra: Founded in 1939, the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra is one of the nation’s oldest classical music training and orchestra performance programs for gifted and talented students from the Tri-State region. Lead by Maestro Louis Scaglione, PYO’s companion ensembles include the Philadelphia Young Artists Orchestra (PYAO), formed in 1996; Bravo Brass, added to the program in 2003; Philadelphia Region Youth String Music (PRYSM) created in 2007; and the Musicopia String Orchestra partnership, which began in 2008. Young musicians from ages six through 21 are selected by competition audition and have represented the United States on five continents.
