LOUIS SCALIONE SUCCEEDS JOSEPH PRIMAVERA AS FIFTH MUSIC DIRECTOR OF THE PHILADELPHIA YOUTH ORCHESTRA
Rick Touhill, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra, today announced the appointment of Louis Scaglione as Music Director of the PYO. He succeeds Maestro Joseph Primavera, whose fifty-one-year tenure as the PYO's Music Director--from 1954 through the 2004-05 concert season--made him the longest-serving active music director of any orchestra anywhere in the world.

PYO to perform Debussy's La Mer and Stravinsky's Firebird Suite in Verizon Hall at Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts on May 8. Philadelphia Young Artists Orchestra to feature pianist Pauline Yang and trumpeter Matthew Kitzen-Abelson in Kimmel Center's Perlman Theater on May 15. Bravo Brass to perform with horn soloist Karen McCommon at Saint Stephen's Church on June 3.

HOLIDAY CONCERT TO BENEFIT REACH OUT AND READ AT THE CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL OF PHILADELPHIA
Louis Scaglione conducts the Philadelphia Young Artists Orchestra (PYAO) in its 6th annual Holiday Benefit Concert supporting the work of Reach Out and Read, which is part of a national pediatric early literacy program and makes literacy promotion a standard part of pediatric primary care, so that children grow up with books and a love of reading.
